Obituary – Patrice Hawkes-Reed
Patrice Hawkes-Reed, 15th September 1953 – 14th November 2024
Our saddest moment of 2024 was the loss of Pat.
Pat was a longstanding Redcloak volunteer for Fantasycon and no doubt would have been involved with WFC 2025, even if she could not have attended. She was also a regular at Bristolcon.
She was usually on the Registration desk and so would be one of the first people to greet many attendees as they arrived at Fantasycon. She was great at problem solving, often fixing a problem, before it even became a problem. She would print, laminate and calmly get on with whatever needed doing.
She loved meeting authors (and musicians) and getting photos with them and signed books. She kept memoribilia and photos for many years; her treasure of memories.
Pat cared deeply about people, would often surprise people with a small gift or send a card for someones birthday. She would frequently be the first to send a “Happy Birthday” message to others, likely with octopus or tentacle emojis attached.
Her health had been difficult for some time, her reduced mobility and frequent hospital trips limited her quality of life and activity. Even so, her death seemed, to me, to come out of nowhere.
She was a real force of personality and our events will be less without her.
We would like to send our love and support to all who knew her.
Rest well, my friend.
